Ventspils won the first ever OlyBet Latvian-Estonian basketball league trophy (Lomažs was named MVP)

BK Ventspils won the first season of OlyBet Latvian-Estonian basketball league as they defeated VEF Riga in the final 102:80.

VEF took an early 6:0 lead but Ventspils controlled the end of first quarter. In the middle of second period Ventspils was leading by 17. Kristaps Janicenoks three pointer before the halftime buzzer reduced VEF`s deficit to 9 points.


Ventspils continued to play strong and for a moment their lead was already 18 points. Arturs Ausejs, Steve Zack and Glenn Miller Cosey carried Riga back to the game but Ventspils was more agressive in the end of third quarter and they took 74:60 lead heading to the las period. Four minutes later VEF`s loss was bigger than 20 points and the winner of first ever OlyBet Lat-Est basketball league was clear.


One of the keys to Ventspils success was scoring behind the arc - they nailed 15 three pointers from 25 shots taken. VEF, who usually makes threes in high percentage manged to score only 7 shots behind the three point line. 


Richards Lomažs scored 26 points and dished out 5 assists for the winners and was named MVP of the Final Four tournament. Maris Gulbis added 21 points and 6 rebounds and Ingus Jakovics gathered 18 points. 


Steve Zack scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for VEF. Glenn Miller Cosey added 15 points and 7 assists.


Lomažs and Jakovics was named to the allstar five of the tournament with Steve Zack from VEF, Kristaps Dargais from Ogre and Chavaughn Lewis from Kalev/Cramo.
