Despite the difficult situation in sports industry caused by the coronavirus, both Estonian and Latvian Basketball Federation as well the title sponsor Paf are positive about the continuation of the joint basketball league.

The season that ended unexpectedly was the second in the Estonian-Latvian basketball league. Jaak Salumets, President of the Estonian federation, wants the format to continue next season. "Of course, due to the crisis, the entire sports landscape will change to a greater or lesser extent. Basketball is no exception. Nevertheless, we see that clubs, fans, supporters and both federations want the common league to continue. Audience numbers in both homes and halls were on the rise at the end of the season. The format is attractive to all sides and we wish to continue improving the quality of the league with our Latvian collegues and namesponsor Paf."

Raimonds Vējonis, President of the Latvian Federation, also sees a strong future for the league. "Latvians and Estonians have always been fundamental opponents on the basketball court, but when we talk about the development of basketball, we are reliable allies. Both in good times and, more importantly, in the face of common challenges. The support of Latvian clubs for the Pafbet Latvia-Estonia League project is a clear sign that by working together we will become stronger. ”

Although the season ended unexpectedly, the league's main sponsor Paf will continue to work with the alliances. "Our first year as a supporter of the Estonian-Latvian basketball league has passed very positively, despite the unexpected interruption of the season. Cooperation with the league organizers has been smooth and it is nice to see that the e-basketball league was launched in a short time. Hopefully we have been able to turn the tension of the audience both on the field and at home. Paf will continue to support the sport! " added Paf Estonia CEO Allar Levandi.

In the first season of the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League (2018/19, ed.), Latvian BK Ventspils was crowned the champion, this year the leading position was held by Riga VEF before the season was cancelled due to coronavirus crisis.
